COoKSTOWN 100 PREVIEW: BARRY SHEEHAN #75

As we look forward to the first road race of the year, let's have a catch up with some of the club members who will be taking to the Orritor track of the Cookstown 100 this weekend.

First up, we have Doneraile rider Barry Sheehan who will be competing in the Open and Supertwin classes this weekend.

1. What machine and classes will you be competing in?

I'll be riding the Game On Suzuki GSXR 1000 in the open class and Game On Kawasaki ER650 in the supertwin class.

2. What preparation went into this weekend?

A lot. I have a refreshed engine going into the Kawasaki as we speak done by Simon Bleasdale. The Suzuki is ready to go after racing in Oulton Park last weekend. It always busy getting ready for race season but this year has been a bit more hectic due to the insurance issues and not knowing what was going to happen. Tolan Designs did a great job on the graphics and with my loyal sponsors onboard, we are ready to rock. These include Limerick Biking School, SW Heating and Plumbing, An Ri Dubh Supporters Club, 75 Supporters Club, Game On Camps, O Shaughnessy Carpentry, Daytona, Curagh K9, E Style Doors and Windows, Davie M Decor and Motomerchants.

3. What are your thoughts on the Cookstown 100 track?

I love Cookstown. It was always the start of the road race season as a spectator or racer so I've always enjoyed it and there is a great buzz around the place. The circuit is short and technical but enjoyable to race on.

4. How has your experience been competing in the Wirral 100 championship?

I cannot say enough about the club. They were so helpful and accommodating to us in every way and I look forward to competing there for the rest of the season.

5. What are your thoughts on the MCUI insurance situation in the South?

I don't really have any if I'm being honest. I was annoyed at the start but at this stage, what can we do. The insurance issues in Ireland are shocking with small businesses closing across the country due to rising insurance costs, with no input from government. It was only a matter of time before racing got hit. Hopefully MCI will get something sorted but I don't intend to race here either way this season.

We wish Barry and all the riders taking to the Orritor roads this weekend the best of luck!

Keep an eye out for more of the Cookstown 100 previews coming this week.
