Cancellation of West Cork Motorcycle Club Drag Race – 24 May 2026
The West Cork Motorcycle Club regrets to announce the cancellation of the Drag Race event scheduled to take place on 24 May 2026.
This decision has been made due to circumstances beyond the Club’s control. Following recent road surface maintenance work at the racing location, club officials carried out a detailed inspection of the track and identified inconsistencies that made it unsuitable for competitive racing.
The Club submitted a road closure application to the relevant authorities 7 weeks in advance of the planned event date and were not made aware at that time of any works that would impact the race. Although the Club has engaged with the appropriate bodies to request corrective action, it will not be possible to complete the necessary remedial works and undertake the required track inspection in accordance with MCUI regulations ahead of the scheduled date.
This decision has not been taken lightly. However, the safety of competitors, members, officials, volunteers, and spectators remains the club’s highest priority.
The Club is currently exploring the possibility of rescheduling the event and will communicate further updates to all stakeholders at the earliest opportunity.
The West Cork Motorcycle Club appreciates the understanding and continued support of all participants, partners, and the wider community. The Club Committee requests patience as next steps are finalised; all relevant authorities, competitors, and sponsors will be contacted in due course.
